14 kilos of Røst cod, worth a proper hugAugust has a habit of being kind to us at Røst, and the Anderson group made the most of it. A week of unstable weather challenged them, from grey and choppy mornings to bright blue afternoons, and through all of it the fish kept coming.
The cod carried the whole trip. Solid fish, session after session, right up to a strong 14 kg that gave a proper hug before swimming off. When you find them stacked over a good mark, double drills become normal rather than lucky, and the lads had plenty of those. Two rods bent at once, and a photo to prove it.
Between the cod, the coalfish did their usual job of wearing everyone’s arms. Pound for pound they are some of the hardest fighters in these waters. They hit fast and then dig for the bottom, and on the right gear they will test your tackle and your patience in equal measure. And don’t forget your top water rods and lures, August is the peak month for surface activity.
The group also ticked off halibuts, the fish a lot of anglers carry on their wish list finally happens. The first one came on a bright, blue day, and it’s always a great moment for the whole boat.
August has always been one of our great underrated months on the island. Long light, feeding fish, and a real shot at cod, coalfish and halibut in the same trip. The Anderson group proved the point in style.
