Some weeks the fishing is great. This one had a little something extra. Our French crew, led by Dante, have been having a brilliant time on the water, and they turned one evening session into something incredible that you will remember.
Yvon is a fishing guide himself back in France, where he chases seabass, so he knows exactly what he is doing. This was his second trip to Røst, and it did not take him long to find his mark again. This year he took a friend with him, Cyril was quick to adapt to catch cod after cod over the side.
Yvon was kind to invite Erik along, our student who is learning the trade to become a fishing guide. And Dante did not just bring him for the ride. He put Erik straight onto some really big fish, and it was not long before he smashed his personal best.
Two nations, two generations of fishing guides, one shared passion, in the same boat. That is what these evenings are really about, and it is a memory Erik will carry for the rest of his career.
And the fishing itself? A real topwater festival. A 20 kg cod and a 12 kg coalfish, both taken on topwater lures, tells you all you need to know about the shape Røst is in right now. And you read it well: a cod on a topwater lure, sometimes Røst is magic.
The fish are here in real numbers at the moment. The only trick this summer is to be ready when the sea gives you a window, an evening, an early morning, whenever the weather opens the door. Stay flexible, and on Røst there is always a way to be out there fishing. This crew understood that perfectly, and we can say that they spent some very good evening on the water.
